Singing Heaven’s Song
God has been merciful and gracious, bringing our beloved husband, dad, and grandpa home to heaven quickly, around 10:50 a.m.
Gary had a peaceful night last night. He dozed in his chair most of the evening, with all of us gathered, although woke up when we had one of our favorite Meyering movies on, The Blues Brothers, and smiled a few times at their dancing and singing antics. Classic. Noelle and Micah showed Grandpa some pictures they drew of him going to heaven with the angels and Jesus. He slept peacefully in his chair overnight under Danielle’s loving and watchful eye, a much better improvement over the previous difficult night.
This morning Dad was mostly awake laying in the bed in the family room, listening to music, gave a few smiles and waves to the 3 grandkids, was holding our hands, and Mom read him all the carepage messages – he was able to take it all in. Please know that he was touched and grateful for all the support – both in recent days and throughout this journey.
Mom put on a CD of the Burgess Brothers – the cousins of my Uncle John. As the song The Potter’s Hand came on, Dad began to get ready to go. Mom and I were sitting with him, and Noelle was on my lap. His eyes got wider and he looked up to the heavens. We suddenly knew it was going to be time very soon. I brought the kids downstairs and woke up Danielle.
From THE POTTER’S HAND:
Beautiful Lord, Wonderful Savior
I know for sure all of my days are held in Your hands
Crafted into Your perfect plans
You gently call me into Your presence
Guiding me by Your Holy Spirit
Teach me dear Lord to live all of my life
Through Your eyes
I’m captured by Your holy calling
Set me apart. I know You’re drawing me to Yourself
Lead me, Lord, I pray.
The next songs were Wonderful, Merciful Savior and Word of God Speak. It was somewhere in between these songs that he breathed his last and entered the arms of Jesus – we held his hands and told him we loved him and Mom assured him that Jesus was waiting and told him to go. It was completely peaceful.
From WONDERFUL, MERCIFUL SAVIOR:
Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost the way
Oh, we hopelessly lost the way
You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for
Almighty, infinite Father
Faithfully loving Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
Falling before Your throne
Oh, we’re falling before Your throne
From WORD OF GOD SPEAK:
I’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it’s okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say
Word of God speak
Would You pour down like rain
Washing my eyes to see
To be still and know
That You’re in this place
Please let me stay and rest
In Your holiness
Word of God speak
I’m finding myself in the midst of You
Beyond the music, beyond the noise
All that I need is to be with You
And in the quiet hear Your voice
After he was gone, the final song that came on, so amazing and fitting, was called Singing Heaven’s Song – an upbeat gospel style song – God is so good.
Thank you for your love and prayers. God has answered our prayers for quick relief and peace. We will let you know soon what arrangements will be made for visitation and funeral.
